Verily, tell truthfully…

Verily, tell truthfully…

Hey, we all padded that resume when we were just starting out (glee club in high school, anyone?); but there’s a difference between making things sound as awesome as they possibly can and lying outright.

After all, you want people to be honest with you, right?

And you want then to be attracted to the real you, right?

When we lie, we don’t give people the chance to learn to love us, but instead give them only the opportunity to love someone else who doesn’t even exist. And it further reinforces any feelings of unworthiness, loneliness, and depression, making it a vicious cycle.

This passage from Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn by Tad Williams sums it up perfectly:

“We tell lies when we are afraid.

Afraid of what we don’t know, afraid of what others will think, afraid of what will be found out about us.

But every time we tell a lie, the thing that we fear grows stronger.”
